Originally from Pavese, she has established herself first on the national scene and then on the international scene after an articulated artistic path that has highlighted its undisputed qualities.

Passionate about art from an early age, she dedicated herself to drawing and technique, experimenting tirelessly, feeling the pressing need to express herself through pictorial matter.

Deepening the use of materials becomes primary for her to guide her interiority: during her youthful years she lays the foundations for the development of her personal style, also through a solid determination.

After graduating from high school, he obtained two scholarships in restoration and fresco techniques. Subsequently, he attended a specialization course in Interior Designer and obtained a management in Cultural Heritage.

After years of experience as an Interior Designer for important brands in Milan, in 2014 he arrived in Pavia, her hometown, to completely innovate a furniture factory of which, to date, she is Art Director.

In the showroom are exhibited some of her works permanently, which reveal the perfect symbiosis between art and environment sought by the artist.

The style

His aesthetic nature is revealed in perfect balance, letting the most rational part emerge within the design to balance it through artistic creations full of unstoppable energy. Already from the first experiments in his works we can trace dreamlike chromatic suggestions, which evoke intimate journeys; his canvases collect programmatic drafts, almost a human geography of emotion.

The meticulous work in the studio intensifies the exhibition possibilities, which take the form of numerous collective exhibitions in Italy and abroad (France, England), within which Laura Altobelli obtains prestigious awards. The mastery of drawing, together with the skilful use of light and tonal contrasts, reveals the careful study of Caravaggio, which the painter internalizes and transposes into the meanings in a contemporary key, through the use of gold leaf and copper leaf.

The hybridization series allows her to focus on the dialogue between Renaissance and modern aesthetics, creating new emotional iconographies. In recent years, the artist has focused on bringing to the highest levels a sort of informal gestural, within which the sign, the material and the gesture become absolute protagonists. Hence her most significant works, which led her to exhibit first in Italy, where she participated, among the numerous events, at the Milan Biennale and later in France, where she was selected for the BACS, the Biennial of Sacred Contemporary Art, in Menton.

The projects

Already reported in 2020 by Vittorio Sgarbi as part of the project “I mille di Sgarbi”, in the same year it received the prestigious “Critics’ Award” of the National Prize for Visual Arts, created in Bologna by Eclipsis Style Project and ArtAlive, which sees the patronage of UNESCO. class="elementor-widget-container">

In the art world there is the idea that anyone who creates art has the right to call himself an artist. But a good artist – and here lies all the difference – is the one who makes someone else feel something deep or unexpected. And this is what happens with the works of Laura Altobelli.

In everything there is a bit of art, but the viewer only has to find out how to see it, because it is often hidden, fragmented, disorganized and sometimes unpretentious. The challenge is to discover it, compose it and order it, that is, to observe things from a different point of view. If it is true that there is no universal formula for creating a work of art, it is also true that every artist must find his own way.

t’s like composing a song or a melody: the notes already exist and are seven. The most difficult part is to put them together and find the right balance between music and silence, between harmony and melody, obtaining creations with unlimited possibilities and endless transformations, “writing” a fabulous dictionary of shapes and colors, in which you can modify and regenerate the image.

In the works of Laura Altobelli all this happens: the lights and shadows, the strength and the delicacy, the vague and the concrete, the body and the soul meet to transform the large canvases into unrepeatable moods.

You cannot pass by a work by Laura Altobelli without stopping and remaining in meditation: somehow you do not just look, but you penetrate the ineffable world that brushstrokes create, as if to stop time.

At the recent edition of the BACS (Biennale d’Art Contemporain Sacré), which is the most important event of its kind on the Côte d’Azur, Laura exhibited an extraordinary work, which nailed hundreds of visitors for days in the large room where the work was exhibited in plain sight: “The blue veil” has an undeniable magnetic power, it releases a mystery as only great works of art can do: because great art has an impact on a wide spectrum of people.

A work of art needs to connect with the viewer on an emotional and personal level, it needs to ask questions and at the same time teach him something he didn’t know or show him something he didn’t know he knew. A work of art can generate mixed feelings: happiness, sadness, anger, pride or patriotism.

It expresses something and connects us to that thing in a way where words are not necessary: it is a feeling that is difficult to describe but that in a way makes us feel less alone. Because a work of art extends beyond its frame and becomes part of us.

Liana Marabini

The Light

Laura Altobelli’s luminescent painting moves particular inner strings that touch the sense of that changing provisional that becomes the object of study and stylistic characteristic in the technical realization.

The matter of Things is constantly changing and Altobelli – through effects of evanescence and chromatic fragmentations – gives us back this passage of time where the moments follow one another in an endless journey.

And it is precisely the meticulous study of the restoration of the frescoes, faced with authentic passion in his training path, that can be seen from this painting that seems to leaf through and deny its own consistency, recalling the intrinsic fragility of ancient decorations, often made layer by layer, on which the artist must have meditated for a long time.

The works thus appear to be worked with a well-defined method, almost stripped of the superfluous, to reveal the perhaps soul essence behind that matter in which the provisional is reflected as a full-blown reality of earthly life.

There are no figural holds or dreamlike visions in this very particular investigation. Everything is played on a visual involvement in the complementarity of visible and invisible, in the delicate and bewitching vanishing full of both chromatic and informal harmony.

Altobelli masters her technique and makes it functional to the intuitions of her feelings. But, if matter seems to explode like stardust in the indistinct, it is the prodigy of the sought-after light that triumphs, at times even more highlighted by the gold leaf.

If it is true that everything changes and perhaps disappears into thin air, all is not lost.

This painting leads us back to a thought that goes beyond rational conventions bringing us back the certainty of a true light, similar to the music of the ether, which filters at first rare, then diffused, accompanying us in the fullness of an extrasensory contemplation that we will not be able to easily forget.

Giancarlo Bonomo

Biography Studies Laura Altobelli was born in 1974.
